Have you ever encountered a website offering a product or service that is so weird and “far-out” that you suddenly find yourself checking it out and buying something from it?  Weird E-business ideas have a certain novelty to it.  We find it amusing and we usually find ourselves thinking why no one has ever thought of selling something like that before.

But is it really that weird?  Usually it’s not.  The E-business owner just focused on a niche E-business idea.  So what is the definition of a niche?  A niche is a small part of a business idea or industry that is so small that it doesn’t generate that much fanfare.  But for it to be considered a good niche E-business idea, there should be a big untapped market that is looking for this weird idea.

The good thing about niche ideas is that you don’t have a lot of competition.  Sure, the general idea where you derived your niche has a lot of competition and consumers.  But what you’re going to do is grab a big part of those consumers and have them focus on your niche idea.

If you’re still wondering what the definition of a niche is, let me give you an example.  Let’s say you have an E-business selling watches.  As you can probably imagine, there are a lot of competition in this market because there are a lot of consumers.  From here, you can focus on a niche E-business idea.  For example, you can focus on selling antique hand-made watches.  You can be sure that from that big market, there is a part that will be interested in antique hand-made watches.  Since there is a fewer competition from this niche idea, you can be sure that the part that you’ll be getting from that market is enough to make you successful.

But if you want to take it one step further, you can think of turning a niche into weird E-business ideas.  This will be harder and won’t guarantee success.  For example, you can sell artworks made using MS Paint.  That is weird because MS Paint doesn’t have all the tools needed to make good artworks.  But if you can pull it off, you will have your own market.

Just remember that even if you find it weird or too niche, it’s not at all weird for some people and they are actually on the lookout for this.  Just make sure that you have what it takes to offer this weird or niche idea and you will gain success slowly but surely.
